WTSEA Fall Conference
Saturday, October 10, 2026 • 8AM - 5 PM
TSE Curriculum - The What and How Matters is the theme of the fall conference. Highlights of the conference will include:
- Unveiling the new required Traffic Safety Education Curriculum (TSEC) -- Starting in January, the DOL will require all public and commercial driving schools to show they are meeting the 629 standards for the curriculum. At the conference, the DOL will tour the curriculum and explain the new standards, review/approval timelines, and forms used to certify compliance. Bring your laptop/tablet so you can actively participate! TSEC is a modern, engaging curriculum that will improve driver education in Washington State. Our hope is that you will leave with a solid understanding and excited to adopt it in your school.
- Tips and tricks on how to design a quality curriculum that meets the required curriculum standards and engages today's novice learners presented by Lynn Rogers, DSAA President and Parkside Driving School Owner
- Other traffic safety education updates and opportunity to ask questions
- Open discussion of how WTSEA should evolve as to better serve our members
Starting in September, all DOL audits require documentation that all public school teachers meet continuing education standards. Attending our conference meets this requirement.

The Washington Traffic Safety Education Association (WTSEA) is a non-profit professional organization serving traffic safety education teachers and administrators throughout the state.
It is our goal to improve driver safety and encourage professional standards in the driver education industry. Since 1970s, we have worked to:
- Promote quality education and the best instructional practices in Washington's traffic safety education program
- Support teachers in acquiring skills, knowledge, and tools to perform at the highest level
- Encourage better citizenship by all drivers in meeting the challenge of contemporary traffic safety requirements
- Prepare students to preserve life, limb, and property through the prevention of motor vehicle collisions
- Develop positive attitudes toward safety as a way of life through better understanding and improvement of decision-making skills
Our association is authorized by the State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) as an approved clock-hour provider to offer clock hours to our members in order to fulfill state continuing education requirements. The Department of Licensing (DOL) also accepts our completion certificates to meet their continuing education requirements.
Board officers remain in regular contact with the OSPI and DOL so that we can stay abreast of the changes in state traffic safety education program. Whenever possible, we attend various state meetings and legislative sessions. Designated board members attend the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA) annual conference and other regional conferences to gather resources and information for our members at our annual conference. (ADTSEA is our national parent association.)
